With its air purifiers, water purifiers, security sensors and other home appliances on the Chinese market, it’s no secret that Xiaomi has an ambition to not only own the smartphone space, but to also litter its brand around our living space. A bit like Ikea and Muji, for the latter part: Cheap, but with good design and quality. Hence the launch of the Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker today, because what better way than to enter every Chinese household with an affordable yet high performance rice cooker, let alone one that works with an app? Priced at just 999 yuan or about $150, this rice cooker is scarily cheap — about four to five times cheaper than its Japanese rivals like Zojirushi, Toshiba and Tiger.

Xiaomi Mi Router 3, Mi Water Purifier 2 and Bluetooth Speaker announced
Xiaomi announced today a sub brand called as Mi Ecosystem which is also known as MIJIA, which literally means Xiaomi Smart Home. The Chinese company has announced an array of products under this brand.
Along with the rice pressure cooker, Xiaomi has announced second generation Mi Water Purifier, Bluetooth Speaker and Mi Router 3. First up, the small Bluetooth speaker supports Bluetooth 4.1 and can be used with mobile devices. The Bluetooth Speaker comes with a 1200mAh battery which offers 7 hours of continuous playback. It measures 60.0mm x 60.0mm x 93.3mm and the maximum output power is 5W. It also has a small LED indicator at the front. Finally, the speaker has built-in microphone for hands-free calls and has support for 10 meter connection distance.
Next up, the Mi Water Purifier 2 uses RO reverse osmosis technology that removes heavy metals, antibiotics, organic filtration technology, with four layers purification filtration system. This also helps you remove home tap water rust, scale, bacteria, antibiotics and unpleasant odors. The advanced filtration technology can intercept more than 0.0001 microns substance, ultrafiltration water purifier precision 100 times.
Xiaomi says that the Mi Water Purifier 2 can purify 76 barrels of bottled water every day. The water flow rate on the purifier is 1 litre per minute. The Mi Water Purifier 2 measures 260x205x410 (mm) and weighs 11.8 kg. It has built in WiFi support and informs you about the water quality of the tap water via Android or iOS app. It also reminds you when a filter needs to be replaced. You can also purchase these filters easily using the app. The company had first launched the water purifier in July last year.
Xiaomi has also announced the Mi Router 3 with four antenna design which helps it offer stronger signal strength. It supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity which is three times faster and comes with 128MB Super Flash inbuilt. The router uses four external omni-directional, multi-element high-gain antenna which results in performance enhancement. An exclusive app provides rich audio and video content and fun functional plug.
The Xiaomi Bluetooth speaker is priced at 129 yuan ($20 approx.), Mi Water Purifier 2 is priced at 1999 yuan ($308 approx.) and finally the Mi Router 3 is priced at 149 yuan ($23 approx.)

Xiaomi has unveiled a Pro variant of the Redmi 3 smartphone. The main difference between the new device and the standard Redmi 3 phone is that the former features a fingerprint sensor and has 3GB RAM 32GB stotage boost.
The handset also offers support for dual-SIM functionality and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, and microUSB 2.0, while color options include silver, grey and gold.

In general, pressure cooking has the advantage of preserving the foods’ vitamins due to the trapped steam, as well as speeding up the cooking process with a higher temperature. In Xiaomi’s case, its smart pressure rice cooker uses 1.2 atm to push the temperature up to 105 degrees Celsius or 221 degrees Fahrenheit. Then there’s the companion app that lets you scan the barcode on the rice packaging, and the device will know how to cook it just right, according to the rice type, brand, origin and your preferred softness. There’s no word on how many types of rice have been categorized by Xiaomi, but it did mention a portfolio of over 200 brands along with 2,450 combinations of cooking methods for this rice cooker.
Despite the price tag, Xiaomi claims that it didn’t cut any corners here: The rice cooker comes with a grey cast iron inner pot which apparently doesn’t come cheap, in order to achieve optimal regenerative heating and also to ensure the rice is evenly cooked. The pot’s non-stickiness is courtesy of Daikin’s Neoflon powder coating as opposed to similar chemicals from no-namers, so that’s also one less feature to worry about. The Chinese company went as far as hiring Naito Takeshi, a former Sanyo engineer and co-inventor of the IH pressure rice cooker, to lead the development of this project. At today’s launch event, Naito is quoted as saying that he wants to “make a better rice cooker, and then sell it back to Japan.”
The other news here is that this rice cooker is actually the first of the many products to come out of Xiaomi’s new sub-brand, Mi Ecosystem (aka “Mijia” in China, which literally means “rice home”). But as with many Xiaomi products, we have a feeling that this device won’t be leaving China any time soon, but you can try hitting up a local friend when it becomes available on April 6th.

Xiaomi Mi 5 - 4GB/128GB will go on sale April 6th
Unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the Xiaomi Mi 5 went on sale in China earlier this month. However, of the three of its variants, only two (3GB/32GB and 3GB/64GB) were made available for purchase.
As for the Mi 5’s international availability, Xiaomi’s VP Hugo Barra has already said that the flagship will only be available in the company’s core markets, so importing one might be the only chance for the western world.

Xiaomi today announced a new Mi TV 3S lineup that includes a 65-inch 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) curved TV with display from Samsung and a 43-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) TV with display from LG / AU Optronics. The 65-inch Curved TV has a 5.9mm slim metal body, and also support Mi TV bar with independent 6-piece sound system.
